Breeding Philosophy
and Goals
This is our philosophy in
breeding Corgis...
- First we do our
best to determine that every Pembroke Welsh Corgi which we raise
will be healthy and free of genetically based problems. This
means checking eyes, hips , and vWD on potential breeding stock,
meticulous pedigree research, and careful rearing. We back
this with a written contract and lifetime health guarantee
on every puppy we sell.
- Equally, we value
temperament -- we want a smart, funny, fun, and trainable Corgi
which can swing with the craziness of our lives and all of the
assorted livestock here on the farm, and happily make the transition
to whatever life may offer in another home.
- Third, we think
that developing and maintaining the working ability of Corgis is of
critical importance. When these genes are lost, they're lost.
We encourage everyone to work their Corgis in obedience,
agility, tracking, and -- most important -- herding. To that
end, we have recently added a flock of
sheep,
two Border Collies, and a
Livestock Guardian Dog
to our family zoo.
- Finally, but by no means last, we
breed to the Official Standard of the
Pembroke Welsh Corgi, the written description of the ideal
specimen of the breed, in order to produce Corgis which are sound,
beautiful, and as close to the ideal as possible. We hope to
find a possible show Corgi to keep for ourselves in every litter we
produce, and for the rest of our puppies to be proud examples of the
breed.
- Our dream is that perfect balance
of a show Corgi which works and a working Corgi which shows.
